BEN LOOMER earned an associates of arts degree in music from Los Medanos College and a bachelor’s degree in music education from University of the Pacific. This is Loomer’s sixth year of teaching music in the San Ramon Unified School District. He has taught music from elementary to high school and has definitely found his place at Stone Valley Middle School. He also teaches marching band at Northgate High School, in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District. Along with teaching, Loomer plays with the Contra Costa Wind Symphony, works as a freelance musician with the Diablo Theatre Company, and has performed with the Ashmolean Singers and the Diablo Women’s Chorale. He serves on the board of The California Association for Music Education (CMEA), and leads a brass ensemble and directs the bell choir at Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church.

ALEXANDRA NIEUWSMA, in her third year as the harpist of the Contra Costa Wind Symphony, is the featured soloist in this season’s Winterfest concert, performing Handel’s Concerto in B flat for harp. Alexandra has played harp with the Oakland Youth Orchestra, Young People’s Symphony Orchestra, and Berkeley Youth Orchestra. Last year Alexandra made her solo debut with the CCWS performing Ian Frenkel’s “Harp Christmas”. This past January, she was selected to perform in the Festival Orchestra in the Bay Area Youth Orchestra Festival 2013 at the Sonoma State Green Center. Alexandra also plays in an all-harp ensemble with her three sisters, known as The Four Graces. Alexandra has studied harp for 8 years with Jessica Siegel.
