Meet The Soloist

Gregory ColburnGregory Colburn has both a successful medical and musical career. When not treating patients, he performs frequently throughout the West Coast as a soloist and chamber musician.

Past cello concerto performances include the Lalo Cello Concerto with both the Cotati Philharmonic and the San Luis Obispo Chamber orchestras and the Brahms Double Concerto, also with the San Luis Chamber Orchestra. Recently he performed the Hidas Fantasy for Cello and Wind Ensemble with the De Anza College Wind Ensemble in San Jose. Other major works he has performed include Tchaikovsky's Roccoco Variations and the Dvorak Cello Concerto.

Dr. Colburn won the NovaVista Symphony Competition, performing the Saint Saens Cello Concerto at age 15, and twice was a finalist in the San Francisco Symphony Young Artist Competition.

He studied cello at the European Conservatory in Paris. He performed on French National Radio and in numerous recital halls. While an undergraduate at Harvard, Dr. Colburn performed with cellist YoYo Ma in a master class conducted by Rostropovich.

Dr. Colburn received his M.D. degree from UCLA and is a specialist in Radiation Oncology. His private practice is in San Jose. He also is an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor at Stanford.
